Happy Holidays from the DFI Blogger!

Friday, December 18th, 2009

Thanks to everyone (or no one) for following my first year of trying to stay current with the Darby Field Inn blog. Despite my protestations, I am actually growing to enjoy it, if not becoming better at it. Happy New Year to all my fellow bloggers, and may the words flow from your brain to your keyboard effortlessly in 2010. Don’t be afraid to comment on my work…I LOVE criticism, ideas, and congratulations!

Wow! It’s Cold Out There!

Friday, December 18th, 2009

This is from the view in our dining room, with the addition of frost on the window. I thought it was an interesting shot, plus it shows perfectly how cold it is (below zero!) right now. We still have brave souls heading out on sleigh rides tonight, though. My advice: wear a WARM hat!

Realizing a Lifetime Dream…

Friday, December 18th, 2009

Sandra and her daughter, Gina, have waited a lifetime for this sleigh ride. They stayed for 3 nights this week, got massages and shared a sleigh ride and dinner in our tavern. They definitely brightened my midweek mornings, which is usually quiet at this time of year. Thanks, ladies, and Happy New Year to you!

Our Gingerbread display, courtesy of Tin Mt.

Monday, December 14th, 2009

This is the gingerbread creation we sponsored this year for the Cookie Tour. Isn’t it fantastic?! BIG thanks to Donna and Carole at Tinn Mt. Conservation Center for all their hours of tireless work on this project. This picture doesn’t even do it justice – there are so many creatures and details that require close inspection. There is even a little fireplace, wreath and present when you peek inside the door! We are waiting to hear the contest results, but I think they deserve first place for their effort. I’ll let you know…

Congratulations Steve and Jill!

Sunday, December 6th, 2009

Steve popped the question this weekend and Jill accepted, after waiting 5 years! He probably had to save up for the ring, which was absolutely gorgeous!! Since this was also her birthday weekend, I’d say she definintely had a memorable one. They werent able to take a sleigh ride, so we’ll look forward to seeing them again once we have enough snow!

Patrick and Megan Ramsay – September 12, 2009

I think this is such a sweet picture of Patrick and Megan, with the inn in the background. It was worth the wait to see these pictures…they have some GREAT ones! Thanks for sharing, ya’ll, and Happy Holidays!

Its time to kill the Poinsettias!

I wait all year ’til Christmas so I can kill some more poinsettias over the holidays. Its not that I have anything against these plants, they just always die on me, despite my every effort (or, perhaps, because of my every effort!).  This year I have resolved to do better, mainly by putting someone else in charge of their care. Waneeta gave me a pointer, so the one I have at home may survive, which I will share with you: NEVER water them from the top, only allow them to soak up water they are placed in for a short period of time. Poinsettias don’t like to be either super wet, or super dry, so only let them soak up water for, say 5 minutes every other day. They should never be wet to the touch on top of their soil. This is also appropriate for orchids. Thanks for the advice, Wan. I’ll still let you take care of the Poinsettias here at the inn, and keep your fingers crossed for the one I have at home!

Rainbow over Moat Mt.

This morning brought some awesome rainbows as the rain from yesterday was blown out of the valley by the wind. Everytime I looked out the window during breakfast the rainbow had moved, much to our guests’ delight! A wonderful addition to our already fantastic colors this fall! Leaf color is up to around 50 – 60%, so don’t delay; come up and join us at peak here at the Darby!
