It’s always nice to wake up to a sugar coating on the world…like today! I’m hoping we have a winter FULL of snow, since I will be back on the ski slopes this season…thank you, husband AND insurance! This should work out for our guests, too, as our old-fashioned sleigh rides are SO popular! FYI: our days and hours of operation have changed, so PLEASE call us to confirm your sleigh ride! Also, the cookie tour is going on next weekend; even if you come last minute, for one day, don’t miss this SUPER fun holiday event! AND don’t forget to bring your ziplock baggies if you do…hope to see you here!

The Pool is Ready for Summer!
Originally uploaded by darbyfieldinn.
You know summer is around the corner when the pool is opened for the season. This is a GREAT spot for relaxing in the afternoon after hiking, biking or shopping. Some of our guests start their day out with a few laps before breakfast. No matter what time of day you prefer to swim, don’t forget to take advantage of this opportunity to lounge!

Is it Spring Yet?Originally uploaded by darbyfieldinn.
Here is an example of Spring in New Hampshire. We received several inches of snow, pushing us ever nearer to breaking our 100 year record. While it has been a GREAT winter, we are all ready to run barefoot through green grass! Maybe in a couple of months…in the meantime sleigh rides are still going strong and the snowshoeing and x-country skiing conditions are fantastic!
The inn will be closed for mud season from April 6 through 17. Hopefully when we return there will be a little less of the white stuff. We are running some Super Spring Specials during April and May, so don’t forget to check out our website from time to time…

All You Need is Dove…Originally uploaded by darbyfieldinn. One of the highlights of breakfast here at the Darby Field Inn, besides the fantastic food, is watching the antics of the birds and squirrels at the feeder. It is interesting to watch the different groups and the way they all interact with each other. I consider doves to be the gentle cows of the population; they always congregate in large, cooing groups and eat enormous amounts of sunflower seeds. They will readily give up their feeder position to any other birds, even the little Chickadees! Doves are also here year round, providing great photo opportunities for our guests, no matter what the season. It is easy to see why these gentle birds became associated with the symbol for peace!

If you forget, you can use ours for a small rental fee. Oh, and if you call and no one answers, leave a message…we’re out skiing!

We invite you to come stay with us and enjoy some GREAT xc skiing and snowshoeing here on the property. Warm up with some hot beverages and homemade cookies every afternoon. We also offer great deals on skiing at Cranmore Mountain when you stay here for two nights, either midweek (save a bundle) or weekend.

The First Snow of WInter 2007
Originally uploaded by darbyfieldinn.
Wow! We asked for it, we got it…8 – 12 inches of the white stuff fell this Monday, making for a nice start to the winter season. We have started sleigh rides here at the Inn and we’re getting ready to bring out the snowshoes and cross country skis, too. This weekend is also the famous Christmas Cookie Tour , which involves a lot of fun AND sugar.

Fall Foliage #6Originally uploaded by darbyfieldinn.
Fall foliage was absolutely beautiful this year! For those of you who weren’t here to see it, here’s a taste of what you missed. We were quite busy for a few weeks, and luckily everyone got to see some color, as the event was nicely spread over 4 or 5 weeks. Folks had such a great time in 2006 we are already getting reservations for next year!

The Barnhills from WisconsinOriginally uploaded by darbyfieldinn.
The Barnhills came to spend a few days with us in May. It was their first time in New England! They started with breakfast, during which they both enjoyed watching our bird feeder, then spent their days hiking in the mountains around the Inn. From here they left to spend some time in Vermont. We wish them a safe journey back to Wisconsin, and hope they return again in the near future!
