Surprise April Snowstorm?

Surprise April Snow…

Originally uploaded by darbyfieldinn

As I mentioned in a previous blog, this little storm is what most old-school New Englanders were waiting for to break up the super nice weather we’ve been enjoying. While this snowstorm was neither unexpected nor (thankfully) very severe, my hope is that all the new blooms and leaves on the trees and flowers aren’t permanently damaged for the season. However gloomy I might be about the sudden change from spring back to winter, I can’t deny how lovely the snow looks laying atop the flowering shrubbery! Mother Nature: cruel, yet beautiful. Welcome to New England!
Here at the Inn we are deep cleaning EVERYTHING getting ready for a busy summer season.  We look forward to greeting old and new friends, and hosting a few weddings, too.    Be sure to check our website often for special deals for every season!

Rainbow over Moat Mt.

Originally uploaded by darbyfieldinn

This morning brought some awesome rainbows as the rain from yesterday was blown out of the valley by the wind. Everytime I looked out the window during breakfast the rainbow had moved, much to our guests’ delight! A wonderful addition to our already fantastic colors this fall! Leaf color is up to around 50 – 60%, so don’t delay; come up and join us at peak here at the Darby!

Is it Spring Yet?

Is it Spring Yet?
Originally uploaded by darbyfieldinn.

Here is an example of Spring in New Hampshire. We received several inches of snow, pushing us ever nearer to breaking our 100 year record. While it has been a GREAT winter, we are all ready to run barefoot through green grass! Maybe in a couple of months…in the meantime sleigh rides are still going strong and the snowshoeing and x-country skiing conditions are fantastic!
The inn will be closed for mud season from April 6 through 17. Hopefully when we return there will be a little less of the white stuff. We are running some Super Spring Specials during April and May, so don’t forget to check out our website from time to time…

All You Need is Dove…

All You Need is Dove…
Originally uploaded by darbyfieldinn. One of the highlights of breakfast here at the Darby Field Inn, besides the fantastic food, is watching the antics of the birds and squirrels at the feeder. It is interesting to watch the different groups and the way they all interact with each other. I consider doves to be the gentle cows of the population; they always congregate in large, cooing groups and eat enormous amounts of sunflower seeds. They will readily give up their feeder position to any other birds, even the little Chickadees! Doves are also here year round, providing great photo opportunities for our guests, no matter what the season. It is easy to see why these gentle birds became associated with the symbol for peace!

Fall Foliage #6
Originally uploaded by darbyfieldinn.

Fall foliage was absolutely beautiful this year! For those of you who weren’t here to see it, here’s a taste of what you missed. We were quite busy for a few weeks, and luckily everyone got to see some color, as the event was nicely spread over 4 or 5 weeks. Folks had such a great time in 2006 we are already getting reservations for next year!
