Patrick and Megan Ramsay – September 12, 2009

December 4th, 2009

I think this is such a sweet picture of Patrick and Megan, with the inn in the background. It was worth the wait to see these pictures…they have some GREAT ones! Thanks for sharing, ya’ll, and Happy Holidays!

Its time to kill the Poinsettias!

December 4th, 2009

I wait all year ’til Christmas so I can kill some more poinsettias over the holidays. Its not that I have anything against these plants, they just always die on me, despite my every effort (or, perhaps, because of my every effort!).  This year I have resolved to do better, mainly by putting someone else in charge of their care. Waneeta gave me a pointer, so the one I have at home may survive, which I will share with you: NEVER water them from the top, only allow them to soak up water they are placed in for a short period of time. Poinsettias don’t like to be either super wet, or super dry, so only let them soak up water for, say 5 minutes every other day. They should never be wet to the touch on top of their soil. This is also appropriate for orchids. Thanks for the advice, Wan. I’ll still let you take care of the Poinsettias here at the inn, and keep your fingers crossed for the one I have at home!

Rainbow over Moat Mt.

This morning brought some awesome rainbows as the rain from yesterday was blown out of the valley by the wind. Everytime I looked out the window during breakfast the rainbow had moved, much to our guests’ delight! A wonderful addition to our already fantastic colors this fall! Leaf color is up to around 50 – 60%, so don’t delay; come up and join us at peak here at the Darby!

December 1st, 2009

You know you’re going to find yourself whistling holiday tunes when Waneeta starts decorating the Inn for the holidays! Christmas trees inside and out, wreaths galore and more decorations “than you can shake a stick at,” as my granny would say. Come see what I’m talking about, beginning this weekend. Oh, and Cookie Tour Tickets are on sale now…give us a call for details!

You might think that Fall foliage is just the same old thing every year, but I am still amazed by the spectacular, unique colors that unfold each year. This autumn has been absolutely gorgeous and is continuing to change daily! Don’t take my word for it, come see for yourself…

Summer…finally!

Summer…finally!

Nothing says summer like Faye’s clematis vine bloming crazily, with our flower gardens in the background! The rain seems to have moved more into the background, while temperatures have remained unseasonably low, making for a great hiking season! Make sure to ask for local trail information while you’re here at the Inn…the waterfall trails are still going strong thanks to the plothora of rain we have received.

I guess this is the payoff for all the rainy weather we suffered through! This has been a great week outside and inside the inn… we’ve had some wonderful guests with interesting stories. One couple was here celebrating their anniversary before they headed to Russia to teach for a couple of years. Another couple from Connecticut spent some honeymoon time here in the valley, relaxing and seeing the sights. Yet another couple spent the night here before heading down to babysit for their new grandson. Sharing lives and experiences is the biggest joy of working at a small inn! I can understand why Marc and Maria have enjoyed it for so many years…
