Nothing says summer like Faye’s clematis vine bloming crazily, with our flower gardens in the background! The rain seems to have moved more into the background, while temperatures have remained unseasonably low, making for a great hiking season! Make sure to ask for local trail information while you’re here at the Inn…the waterfall trails are still going strong thanks to the plothora of rain we have received.

I guess this is the payoff for all the rainy weather we suffered through! This has been a great week outside and inside the inn… we’ve had some wonderful guests with interesting stories. One couple was here celebrating their anniversary before they headed to Russia to teach for a couple of years. Another couple from Connecticut spent some honeymoon time here in the valley, relaxing and seeing the sights. Yet another couple spent the night here before heading down to babysit for their new grandson. Sharing lives and experiences is the biggest joy of working at a small inn! I can understand why Marc and Maria have enjoyed it for so many years…

sunshine around the well…
Originally uploaded by darbyfieldinn.
I am pleased to say the sun has stuck with us for a few days, even though we have had some light showers. All Faye’s flowers are reviving from “slug world” and have filled in and bloomed nicely. We were particularly worried about those around the well, but as you can see, they survived our month of rain fairly “well” (pun intended)!

Chuck and Cyndi were married atop Mt. Washington this past Thursday. They spent 3 nights here at the Inn with us, exploring the area and taking a break from the “real” world. I will miss their smiling faces at breakfast and hope to see them again, soon! Oh, and thanks for the good weather, Chuck. We hope it holds for awhile!

Ed and Lynn waited 16 years for this day…we are pleased they chose to share it with us! They are off playing golf today. Hope they have as much good fortune on the course as they do in life! It is obvious they already have the patience…

Oh, that’s right, it’s the SUN! I’s been so long I had forgotten what it looked like. Guess I’d better spend some time out in it today before it disappears again…hope ya’ll get to, too! Actually, this weekend looks like a summer winner, comparatively, so keep your fingers crossed that we have a chance to dry out…

The Darby Field Staff

All of us at the Darby want to congratulate our employers and, more importantly, our friends, Marc and Maria Donaldson (on the right end of front and back rows) on 30 years of owning and operating the Inn! They have managed, with grace and humor aplenty, to show everyone how REAL innkeeping is done. Hard to imagine doing anything that long these days. We wish them many more years to come, well, because we LOVE our jobs!

Josh and Candi McKerleyOriginally uploaded by darbyfieldinn.Congratulations to Candi and Josh. They came to stay with us two days on an elopement package and were lucky enough to have both rain and sunshine on their wedding day! After a quick ceremony on the patio, they had a small reception in the tavern and headed up to Mt. Washington for the afternoon. They are a wonderful, personable couple and we wish them the best of luck!

The Pool is Ready for Summer!
Originally uploaded by darbyfieldinn.
You know summer is around the corner when the pool is opened for the season. This is a GREAT spot for relaxing in the afternoon after hiking, biking or shopping. Some of our guests start their day out with a few laps before breakfast. No matter what time of day you prefer to swim, don’t forget to take advantage of this opportunity to lounge!
